This takes me back to the first time I visited San Gimignano on a tour, these days I wouldn’t be caught dead on a tour as I just find them to be a waste of time. I really enjoy just getting lost and finding unique and cool things in a city or town. I’ve found the best little restaurants this way, especially when lost and asking for help. Don’t be afraid to ask for help in Italy, especially in these smaller Tuscan towns. The people are, at least the ones I’ve come in contact with, are always so helpful. One time a nice lady had me into her house to serve me some coffee and bread! I didn’t want to go with her, but she was so nice I felt like I might offend her if I refused. It ended up being very nice, and the breads and cheeses she had were amazing. So my travel tip is to avoid these tours like the plague, unless you really don’t like being lost, and you really don’t like asking for directions or help, but in those cases just print a map ahead of time.
